COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Malcolm Mitchell was a high school teammate of Tennessee Tech juniors Jerry King and Blake Adams. The 6-2, 230-pound Mitchell was a quarterback's nightmare during his days on the defensive line at Dunwoody High School in Atlanta.

Following graduation from Dunwoody, Mitchell went to Louisville while Adams and King chose Tech, but now the three will be reunited on the Golden Eagle roster. After a redshirt season in 2009 and two years on the field at Louisville, Mitchell has transferred to Tech where he has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

"Malcolm was a really good football player at Louisville and we're excited about getting him here," Brown said. "Not only is he a good football player, but he's also a great kid. We're looking forward to having him here."

Mitchell appeared in 11 games at defensive end for the University of Louisville over the past two years. He recorded eight total tackles, including 2.5 for loss, with one of those coming against Ohio Valley Conference member Murray State in 2011. Mitchell also recorded Louisville's only fumble return in 2011 when he scooped up a Connecticut fumble and ran it back 36 yards for a touchdown.

At Dunwoody High School, Mitchell helped lead his team to a 12-1 record in his senior campaign, racking up 70 tackles and 10 sacks. That performance earned him a spot on the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Top 150 list. He also tallied 62 tackles and eight sacks in his junior year under coach James Teter, and was named Honorable Mention Class 3A All-American by the Georgia Sports Writers Association.

Mitchell will major in multidisciplinary studies.
