Chad Zinchini named National Punter of the Week by CFPA

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Tech junior Chad Zinchini has been selected as the National FCS Punter of the Week by College Football Performance Awards (CFPA). Zinchini averaged a school-record 52.6 yards per kick in Tech's game at Tennessee State last Saturday and now ranks sixth nationally.

The junior from Hendersnville, Tenn., punted five times against the Tigers to average 52.6 per kick, with a long kick of 60 yards that went against the wind. The previous school record for punting average in a single-game was 52.5 yards per kick by Scott Meadows in a 1985 game against Eastern Kentucky.

Zinchini ranks sixth in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) and first in the Ohio Valley Conference with a punting average of 44.7 through eight games. That average is on pace to break the school record, which is currently 44.5 yards per kick by Jon Mahan in the 2005 season.

Earlier in the year, Zinchini received CFPA Honorable Mention for his performance in Tech's game against Jacksonville State.

The Golden Eagles host Eastern Illinois Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. for Homecoming. Visit the Athletics Ticket Office in Eblen Center or call (931) 372-3940 for ticket information.
