Black uniforms, fans in black, free shirts planned for Blackout Saturday

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Get ready, Golden Eagle fans, for something brand new. The Tennessee Tech football team is in on it. You can be, too.

It's the first-ever Golden Eagle Blackout in Tucker Stadium. The team will wear new, black uniforms for the first time in school history. Fans are encouraged to wear black, as well. And, the first 2,500 fans will receive a specially designed blackout tee shirt.

"The players have wanted to do this, and we made an agreement last year that if they won the OVC championship we'd allow them to wear black uniforms," said Mark Wilson, Director of Athletics. "Our colors are purple and gold, and we wear white uniforms on the road, but we've never worn a black uniform.

"This was one of the things that they were excited about last year when they won the championship," Wilson said. "They really want to wear black."

So, in conjunction with team being clad in black, Golden Eagle fans are asked to wear black to the stadium for a complete "blackout" experience when Tech hosts Eastern Kentucky Saturday (Oct. 20). Kickoff is at 7 p.m. and the Magic 98.5 Tailgate Park opens at 4 p.m.

As part of the event, Tech is providing a free, specially-designed "blackout" tee shirt to the first 2,500 fans as they enter the stadium. Gates will open at 6 p.m. and shirts will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis at all gates into the stadium.

To order tickets, or for additional information, please contact the Athletics Ticket Office in Eblen Center at (931) 372-3940.
