It was a charity stripe sort of night as TTU falls at Morehead State, 90-82

MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Tennessee Tech women's basketball team fell in a high-scoring affair on Monday evening to host Morehead State, 90-82.

This marked just the second time this season that the Golden Eagles surpassed 80 points, while it was also just the fifth time a TTU opponent has also surpassed the mark.

The high-scoring marks were aided by the fact the two squads a combined 57 free throws.

Tech shot 23 free throws, connecting on 20. However, just three Golden Eagles attempted those charity stripe attempts. Senior T'Keyah Williams connected on all four of her attempts, while junior Samaria Howard made her living on the line Monday night. Howard attempted 18 free shots, connecting on 16. Over the last six games, Howard is a combined 39 of 43 from the stripe, an impressive 90.7-percent clip. Senior Candace Parson added one free throw attempt, missing the and-one opportunity.

Morehead attempted 34 free shots, connecting on just 25. But it was enough to be the advantage in the contest, and MSU was in the bonus with 15:30 left in the second period.

Despite the discrepancy, the Golden Eagles fought against the disadvantage and rallied, taking their first lead of the game, 55-54, on a Hannah Goolsby three with 13:37 left to play. However, 11 free shots, including five in the final minutes helped seal the game for the MSU Eagles.

Howard used her 16 free points to help herself to a career night, as she tied a career-high 28 points, while grabbing a game-best and career-best 13 rebounds, nine of which were offensive. Parson added 14 points and three assists, while Williams added 12 points, eight rebounds and a career-best 4 assists.

As a team, Tech dished out a season-high 19 assists, while only committing 11 turnovers. Goolsby, who finished with nine points, dished out a team-high and career-best five assists while committing no turnovers.

The Golden Eagles will wrap up the 2014-15 season on Saturday as they head to Eastern Kentucky to take on the Colonels at 3 p.m. CST.
