COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- What was designed as a community service
effort by the Tennessee Tech Athletics Marketing staff, Awesome
Eagle and the Golden Eagle spirit squads is proving to be much more
-- an opportunity to develop a new wave of young fans.
"We started out simply to visit Day Care locations around town,
giving the kids a chance to meet Awesome Eagle and the cheer and
dance squads and a chance to get them excited about the Golden
Eagles," said Leveda Dexter, Director of Marketing and Corporate
Sales.
"What came out of those visits is increased interest in the Hoop
Troop and several new members," she said. "As it turns out, those
visits are cultivating a new group of fans."
And, with the holidays approaching, Dexter and her staff are
reaching out to families in the area with an invitation to take
action and enroll in the Hoop Troop.
"Membership in the Hoop Troop would be a really nice Christmas
gift to young fans," Dexter said. "Even though the season is
underway, there are still 18 home games left on the schedule after
Christmas, so the Hoop Troop is still a fantastic deal."
Membership in the Hoop Troop is available exclusively to young TTU
basketball fans from age three through 18, providing kids the
opportunity to be more involved with the Tech Athletics Department
and to show their Purple Pride. The membership cost is just $25 per
child. As a Christmas present, that makes the cost just $1.39 per
game for those remaining 18 home games.
In addition to admission to every home regular season game,
benefits include an official Hoop Troop t-shirt and membership
card, access to special events exclusively for Hoop Troop members,
an opportunity to he a Tip-Off Kid and present the game ball to the
officials before a game, Hoop Troop giveaways and a chance to meet
with players and coaches.
To purchase a Hoop Troop membership, call or visit the Athletics Ticket Office in Eblen Center (931-372-3940). The ticket office is open regular business hours weekdays, and will remain open through Dec. 19.
