Purple Palooza Tuesday night features trick-or-treating, costume contests and basketball

SPOOOKVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech will open the doors to Eblen Center Tuesday night for the third annual Purple Palooza, with fun for families and kids in the region while also serving as a preseason showcase for Golden Eagle basketball. Community and student groups will participate in the event for the second straight year, manning bpoth around the concourse for trick-or-treating.

Groups will present decorated booths, wear costumes and hand out treats to youngters for the hour prior to the on-floor activities.

A slam dunk contest, 3-point shootouts, and a chance to meet all of the players and coaches, will highlight the Purple Palooza activities inside the arena, beginning at 7 p.m. Drawing large and enthusiastic crowds each of the past two years, Purple Palooza is a tip-off celebration of Tennessee Tech basketball and introduction to the Golden Eagle men’s and women’s teams.

Similar to Midnight Madness but earlier in the day, the 2014 Purple Palooza is set to begin at 6 p.m. Admission and parking is free, and all Tech basketball fans, students, faculty and staff are invited to take part in the festivities. The tables around the concourse, with treats and other prizes, provide added incentive for young fans to attend.

In addition, basketball fans will get their first look at the brand new video board inside the arena, and many will see their faces and/or costumes featured on the giant screen.

Tech students are invited to enjoy free pizza on the concourse of the arena beginning at 6 p.m. In the Eagles Nest, season ticket holders and Athletics Association donors will enjoy a reception and chance to meet and mingle with players and staff.

Out on the arena floor, the action begins at 7 p.m. with introductions. The Golden Eagle women’s team, under coach Jim Davis, will take the floor, followed by coach Steve Payne’s men’s team.

The fun will continue with a 3-point shootout among four long-distance sharpshooters from each team, followed by an on-court autograph session with both teams.
