Sharp-shooting Cougars hand Golden Eagles 85-62 loss in Edwardsville

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – It was just one of those nights for the Tennessee Tech men's basketball team Saturday evening, as everything seemed to happen in favor of an SIUE Cougar squad that handed the Golden Eagles a tough, 85-62 loss in Edwardsville.

The Cougars (6-7, 2-0) simply couldn't miss on its home court, the Vadalabene Center, hitting on an incredible 72.7 percent of its 3-point attempts. SIUE finished 56.9 percent from the floor, including a scorching 64 percent in the second half.

On the flip side, the Golden Eagles (8-7, 0-2) struggled to score, shooting just 37.9 percent from the field and 23.1 percent from downtown. Tech also saw a rarity on the night, as SIUE out-rebounded the Golden Eagles, 39-33.

Rozell Nunn led the Cougars on the night, scoring 18 points with Kris Davis adding 16 and Keaton Jackson collecting 12.

Charles Jackson notched his 11th double-double of the season, scoring 14 points and corralling 10 boards in 35 minutes of action. He also blocked two shots.

Dwan Caldwell overcame an tough first half that saw the big man tagged for two fouls and two turnovers in just two minutes on the court, forcing him to the bench. He rallied for a 17-point, second-half performance, sinking 7 of his 10 attempts and blocking a shot. He also tallied four rebounds.

Torrance Rowe scored in double figures for the second straight contest, totaling 11 points, including two 3-pointers.

The Golden Eagles will return to the court Thursday, Jan. 8 for a 7:30 p.m. CST match-up with Ohio Valley Conference rival Murray State.
