Hot-shooting Lady Bisons down Golden Eagles in in-state match-up

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech women's basketball team fell at the hands of Lipscomb University on Thursday evening, 72-53.

The Lady Bisons opened the game with an 11-0 run, including hitting three 3-point shots. Lipscomb's early 3-point success foreshadowed the result of the game.

Tech fought back following the 11-0 run, looking to senior Candace Parson for answers. Parson delivered, going 5-for-6 from the field in the first half, scoring 11 points and grabbing six boards. From the 14:26 mark, Tech finished the half with a 21-15 advantage.

Parson helped the Golden Eagles go into the intermission trailing by just five, 26-21.

However, the Lady Bisons' 3-point shooting again was the difference maker. Five different Lipscomb players hit a shot from beyond the arch, including Chandler Cooper, who connected on a team-high four threes.  In the second half, the Lady Bison hit seven-of-12 from deep, and finished the game shooting 48-percent from three.

Tech was able to stay within reach behind sophomore Catherine Taylor's efforts. Taylor hit two three's of her own in the second half, and finished with 13 points, tying a career-high she had set earlier this season.

Parson finished the game with 17 points, adding eight boards and two blocked shots.

Lipscomb saw four players in double-figures, including Cooper who finished with 12. Leading the way was forward Ashley Southern with 19 points and 11 boards for a double-double. Sara Bliss matched Cooper with 12, while Danay Fothergill had 10.

Tech returns to action on Saturday and Sunday as it heads to Chattanooga for the Chattanooga Basketball Classic on UTC's campus. Tech will face North Carolina A&T on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT, followed by Morgan State on Sunday at 11 a.m.
