COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - After dropping a pair of games on the road last weekend, the Tennessee Tech women's basketball team will look to turn things around this Thursday when the Golden Eagles take on visiting Murray State. Game time on Thursday is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
It will also be Think Pink at the Eblen Center as fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness. Tech is one of more than 1,000 schools across the country to participate in the Think Pink campaign. The Golden Eagles will also sport pink warm-ups and shoelaces in support of the cause.
Additionally, Thursday is Pack The House Night as Tech attempts to break the school's attendance record at a women's basketball game. The record attendance is 6,113 set 20 years ago during the 1990 season.
There is no doubt that the Golden Eagles have thrived in front of the hometown fans as Tech boasts a 7-3 mark at home this season. Tech split four games in its last home stand, and will look for a pair of wins this weekend with UT Martin coming into town on Saturday night.
Tech holds a significant advantage in the all-time series between the two schools with 54 wins in 67 meetings, but MSU has owned the series of late. Murray State has won the last six games against TTU with the last Golden Eagles win coming in the 2006-07 season by a score of 54-49.
Currently, Murray State (10-13, 5-7 OVC) is tied for fifth place in the OVC, while Tech (9-14, 4-9) sits in a tie for ninth.
The only two players to record a triple-double in the OVC this season will be on the floor on Thursday. Tech's Tacarra Hayes posted a triple-double against Morehead State (1/7), while MSU's Mallory Luckett accomplished the feat against Jacksonville State.
Hayes leads the Golden Eagles in scoring (16.2 ppg), rebounding (5.6 rpg) and assists (4.0 apg), but Krystal Stirrup may be the Golden Eagle most excited about returning to the Eblen Center. Stirrup has shined when playing at the Eblen Center this season, shooting a team-high 52.2 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from downtown while averaging just less than 10.0 points per game in 10 home games.
