COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Former WNBA player and North Carolina standout Coretta Brown has joined the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball coaching staff. Brown is serving as an assistant coach along with Dee Bell and Bett Shelby under Golden Eagle head coach Sytia Messer.

Brown brings a wealth of basketball experience to the Golden Eagle coaching staff where she will work mainly with the guards this season.

“Tennessee Tech has first-class facilities, and I’m excited to be a part of this program,” Brown said. “I have a lot of respect for coach Messer both as a player and a coach.”

A four-year player at North Carolina, Brown played four seasons in the WNBA before beginning her coaching career. Brown was a three-time All-ACC honoree and holds the career record for 3-pointers made at UNC. She was selected 11th overall in the 2003 WNBA Draft by San Antonio before being traded to Indiana. Brown played three seasons with the Fever before playing her fourth and final season with the Chicago Sky.

In addition, Brown played for Team USA at the FIBA World Championships in Russia and was a member of the Team USA practice squad in preparation for the Olympics.

Following her playing career, Brown spent two seasons with Georgia Tech as an administrative coordinator where she worked with coach Messer. She then moved to the high school level where she was an assistant coach for the Benjamin E. Mays varsity women’s team and helped lead the team to the Sweet 16 in the state of Georgia.

Brown has also worked numerous camps and clinics throughout both her playing and coaching careers.

Brown will help lead the Golden Eagles this Sunday when they travel to Louisville, Ky., to play the No. 23 Louisville Cardinals. Game time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
