MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – The Tennessee Tech women's golf team put a cap on the 2021-22 season Tuesday afternoon, completing the third and final round of the Ohio Valley Conference Championships at the Fighting Joe Course at The Shoals, part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.
The Golden Eagles tied for fourth place overall at the league's annual event, the team's best finish since earning a runner-up showing in 2016. The purple and gold posted a 305 on the final day of play, moving up into a tie with Murray State for fourth place with a total three-round score of 918.
Austin Peay claimed the tournament title with a final of 901, besting both Belmont and Morehead State by one stroke. The Racers' Payton Carter took home individual medalist honors with a 214, winning by three shots.
For the purple and gold, it was Ainsley Simms earning the team's top finish, placing 10th among the 33 participants. The sophomore carded a 228 overall, using a birdie and 12 pars to turn in a 77 on Tuesday.
Delivering the top performance of the day for the Golden Eagles was Hannah Bratton, finishing with a 3-over 75, two birdies, and 11 pars. The senior represented one of three members of the Tech lineup to tie for 12th, posting a 232 total for the week.
Also tying for 12th were Heidi Lawson and Elisabeth Toennessen, each also posting scores of 232. Lawson produced a 76 on Tuesday, contributing a birdie and 12 pars. Toennessen completed her day with a 77, racking up two birdies and 10 pars.
Rounding out the Golden Eagle lineup was Gittle Sciolis, tying for 19th overall. The junior totaled a 235 for the week after tallying an 81 on Tuesday with two birdies.
