Golden Eagles ninth after opening two rounds of F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate

SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech women's golf team wrapped up the first two rounds of action at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate Monday, competing at The Legacy Golf Course in Springfield, Tenn.

The Golden Eagles finished the day ninth overall with one round of play left on Tuesday, posting scores of 319 and 314 for a 633 overall. Former Ohio Valley Conference rival Jacksonville State finished on top of the leaderboard at the end of the day, scoring a 594 to lead Belmont by two strokes. Belmont's Delia Gibbs and Kendall Maynard and Austin Peay's Erica Scutt tied for the individual lead, each posting scores of 145.

For the purple and gold, it was returning freshman Ainsley Simms pacing the way through 36 holes, tying for 12th among the 58 participants with a score of 150 overall. The Maryville, Tenn. native delivered back-to-back rounds of 3-over 75, ripping off 24 pars.

Junior Heidi Lawson concluded the day in a tie for 34th, delivering rounds of 79 and 81 for a 160 two-round total. Just one shot back of her teammate, Hannah Bratton tied for 36th overall with a 161. The senior posted an 82 in the first round before shaving three shots from her score for a second-round 79.

Rounding out the scoring for the Golden Eagles was sophomore Gittle Sciolis, carding an 83-79=162 to tie for 40th in the field. Also in the lineup for the purple and gold, fellow sophomore Elisabeth Toennessen finished 48th, turning in back-to-back rounds of 84 for a 168 total.

Competing as an individual, sophomore Makenzie Morton produced an 89 in the first round and trimmed three shots off her score for a second-round 86. She finished with a 175 with one round to play.

The third and final round of the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate is set to begin with a 9:00 a.m. CT shotgun start.
