MURRAY, Ky. – Inclement weather did its best to create problems at the Jan Weaver Invitational Friday afternoon, but the Tennessee Tech women's golf team concluded its first round of play before the day's second trip around Miller Memorial Golf Course was cancelled.

Play will now wrap up Saturday morning at 10 a.m. CT with the final round.

The purple and gold rounded out the first round of play with a 323, placing eighth among the 10 competing teams. Tech sat just one shot back of seventh and four from a top-five ranking. Samford led the field with a 309 on the day. The Bulldogs' Sophie Membrino led the individual effort with a 1-over 73.

For Tech, it was junior Gittle Sciolis providing the top showing in the first round, carding a 5-over 77. She tied for seventh after making 13 pars.

Next among the Tech competitors was Hannah Bratton, tying for 14^th overall after delivering a 79. The senior posted a total of 11 pars on the day. Fellow senior Heidi Lawson was the next Golden Eagle on the leaderboard, tying for 29^th with a final score of 82.

Tying for 44^th among the 63 competitors was junior Elisabeth Toennessen, carding an 85 and one the purple and gold's two birdies of the day. Rounding out the action for the Golden Eagles was Ainsley Simms. The sophomore turned in an 87 for her first round.

Competing as an individual was Makenzie Morton, tying for 47th in the field. The junior produced an 86, tallying the team's other birdie in the first round.
