Golden Eagle women place eighth at Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate

Next action for Tech women is OVC Championships, April 22-24

MORGANTOWN, N.C. -- Freshman Katherine Bell (pictured) finished strong, carding the team's low round of the day Tuesday as the Tennessee Tech women's golf squad placed eighth at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate, hosted by Western Carolina University.

Bell shot a final round 76, one of two Golden Eagles who improved on the second day of play. After opening with an 87 Monday, Bell closed with a 76 on her second tour of the 5,869-yard, par 72 Mimosa Hills Golf Course. Senior Megan Bradford was the other Tech golfer who sliced strokes off her opening score, following Monday's 85 with an 80 Tuesday

Senior Diana Carson was Tech's top finisher in the meet, placing in a tie for 17th after rounds of 75 and 78 for a 153. Junior Carley Rhyne tied for 35th place at 78-80--158, while freshman Amanda Randolph tied for 48th place at 80-82--162.

Bell's 87-76--163 placed her in a tie for 52nd, while Bradford finished in a tie for 59th place at 85-80--165.

Elon captured the team title with a 607 team total, three shot better than Appalachian State (610). Western Carolina (612) placed third, followed by Richmond (613) and Wofford (616). William & Mary (618) headed up the second five, followed by Jacksonville State (621), Tech (632), Presbyterian (635) and Gradner-Web (637).

The entire field included 15 schools and 78 individual golfers.

For coach Brandy Stout's team, the next meet on the schedule is the Ohio Valley Conference championships, April 22-24.
