Morganton, N.C. -Senior Diana Carson is tied for fifth place and the Tennessee Tech women's golf team is tied for eighth halfway through the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate, hosted by Western Carolina University.
Elon (305) leads Western Carolina (306) by one stroke to
headline the opening round of the tournament at the par-72,
5,869-yard Mimosa Hills Golf Club. Appalachian State (308) is third
as the top three teams are within three strokes of the first place
overall.
William & Mary (312) is fourth with Wofford (313) rounding out
the top five.
Wofford's Sara Hurt is the individual leader after carding an
even-par, 72, on Monday. She is one stroke ahead of William &
Mary's Carolina Sweet who shot 73, with a pair of individuals from
North Carolina State -- Cindel Gwyn and Julie Saleeby -- both tied
for third after shooting two-over, 74.
Carson opened play with a three-over 75 and is in a five-way tie
for fifth place. Junior Carley Ryhne (pictured above) is next for
coach Brandy Stout's team, shooting a 78 to put her in a tie for
24th place. Freshman Amanda Randolph (80) is tied for 37th,
followed by senior Megan Bradford (85) and freshman Katherine Bell
(87).
Tech's first round 318 has the Golden Eagles tie with Gardner-Webb
for eighth place, just one shot behind Richmond and Jacksonville
State in a sixth-place tie. The field includes 15 teams and 78
individual golfers.
The final 18 holes will be played Tuesday, Tech's final round of
tournament play before heading to the OVC Championships.
