Women's team gets Spring golf season underway in Alabama

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Tech women's golf team gets the spring half of its 2009-2010 schedule underway this weekend at the Birmingham Southern Invitational, a 36-hole event to be played at Timberline Golf Course.

Tech will join a field of 10 teams which will play 18 holes Sunday and a final round Monday.

Golden Eagle coach Brandy Stout will take an experienced group of seven players to the tournament, including three seniors and two juniors. Tech's five-player lineup for the tournament will include seniors Megan Bradford and Diana Carson, juniors Carley Rhyne and Lindsay Spradlen, along with freshman Amanda Randolph.

Bradford owned Tech's low average in the fall at 77.9 strokes, with Carson right behind at 78.8. Bradford had a low round of 72 on her way to winning medalist honors at the APSU F&M Bank Intercollegiate Tournament, October 19-20. Carson (shown in photo) posted Tech's low round of the fall season, carding a 71 on her way to a seventh place finish in the Drake Creek Invitational, September 14-15.

Randolph was third in the fall with an 82.3 average in her first collegiate action, followed by Rhyne with an 82.6 average and Spradlen, averaging 82.8.

Golden Eagles playing in the tournament as individuals will be freshman Katherine Bell and senior Katie Brown. Bell had an 83.1 average in the fall and Brown averaged 86.4 strokes.

"We're ready to go," Stout said. "It's been a few months since our last tournament and we're anxious to get back out there and compete. We have really good leadership from our seniors and they want to finish their careers strong."
