First round troubles plague Golden Eagles

GULF SHORES, Ala. -- Monday's scorecards probably won't make it into anybody's scrapbooks of season highlights, as the Tennessee Tech women's golf team opened play in the UAB Beach Blast by finishing the day in 12th place among the dozen teams in the field.

The Golden Eagles will try to recover Tuesday in the final round of the 36-hole tournament and move up the standings, which are led by Middle Tennessee at 297. Memphis is in second place at 300, followed by Samford (301), Arkansas State and Belmont (306) in the top five.

The only two Ohio Valley Conference schools in the event are in the bottom two positions. Austin Peay is in 11th place at 316, with Tech in 12th after posting a 333 team total.

All five of Tech's players shot 82 or higher on The Peninsula Course. Junior Lindsay Spradlen was Tech's leader at 82, putting her in a tie for 49th place. Carley Rhyne carded an 83 and is tied for 52nd place. Amanda Randolph and Megan Bradford are tied for 56th place at 84, and Katherine Bell is in 60th at 86.

Tuesday's final round of the UAB Beach Blast is also Tech's final round of the fall schedule.
