NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech tennis team fell in its annual match-up with in-state rival Lipscomb Friday evening, with the Bisons (2-4) edging the Golden Eagles (0-5) at Richland Country Club in Nashville.

The battle came down to the very end, but Lipscomb was able to pull off 4-3 victory over the Cookeville Crew, despite Tech's triumph in doubles.

The No. 1 doubles group of Evzen Holis and Andre Rodeia made swift and nimble work of Lipscomb's Pedro Uribe and Gonzalo Garcia-Nieto, taking a 6-2 win. Tech's No. 2 duo matched that effort, with Mika Berghaus and Elias Grubert teaming up for a 6-2 victory over Lipscomb's Sam Fischer and Jake Penny.

Rafael Tosetto and Jun Sasagawa, taking on Maksim Bogdanovich and Luka Stojanovic in No. 3 doubles action, fought to a draw at 3-3 before the match moved on to singles play with Tech having already claimed the doubles point.

Holis continued his winning ways into singles action, taking up the mantle at the No. 2 position and representing the Golden Eagles well. The youngster upended Pedro Uribe with a pair of close sets, winning 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4). Grubert also completed a 2-0 night, producing a quick, straight-sets win over Luka Stojanovic. Competing at No. 3, the Golden Eagle veteran earned the 6-4, 6-1 win.

At the No. 1 singles battle, Berghaus dropped a close one to Maksim Bogdanovich, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. Sasagawa fought back from an early deficit at No. 6 singles, forcing a third and decisive set against Sam Fischer. It was Fischer coming out on top, edging the Golden Eagle 7-5, 4-6, 6-2.

Andre Rodeia suffered a setback at No. 4 singles, falling in straight sets to Gonzalo Garcia-Nieto, 6-4, 6-4. Lipscomb's Alex Mesquida took the win at the No. 5 position, with Tech's Tosetto retiring after falling in the first set 6-2.

The Golden Eagles will get a small break from action, returning to the courts on Saturday, Feb. 26 with a road tilt at Kennesaw State. The match is set for a noon CT start in Kennesaw, Ga.
