Berghaus and Grubert tripped in championship clashes on day three of Wake Forest Fall Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The host Demon Deacons got the better of the Tennessee Tech tennis team in the final day of TTU's last fall event, as a pair of Wake Forest players bested both Golden Eagles in their respective championship bouts.

Mika Berghaus and Elias Grubert claimed a pair of battles on Saturday to advance to Sunday's championship, but both fell in their own title finales on the last day of the Wake Forest Fall Invitational.

Playing in the A1 Singles bracket championship clash, Berghaus was tripped up 6-4, 6-4 by Filippo Moroni, the top seed in the A1 field. Grubert was handed a similar fate with a 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5) defeat to WFU's Ben Draper in the A2 Singles bracket consolation championship.

Berghaus rounds out his fall showing with a 10-3 singles mark, while Grubert concludes his autumn performance with a 10-4 solo record.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Day two of the Wake Forest Fall Invitational saw the Tennessee Tech tennis team post great success, with the two Golden Eagles in competition each delivering a pair of victories on the day.

Mika Berghaus continued his run through the A1 Singles bracket, notching a 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 victory over Duke's Edu Guell in the quarterfinals. The youngster followed it up with another strong performance, defeating Matthew Thomson of Wake Forest, 6-4, 6-4, in the semifinals. Berghaus will take on the No. 1 seeded Demon Deacon, Filippo Moroni, in the bracket's championship match-up Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m. CT.

Elias Grubert advanced all the way to the A2 singles bracket consolation championship on Saturday, kicking off the action with a tight, 7-6(5), 3-6, 7-6(2) victory over Daniel Martin of Elon in the quarterfinals. He then returned to the court for a semifinal bout with Princeton's Alan Kam, eking out a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 win. Grubert will square off with Wake Forest's Ben Draper in the consolation title match Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Tennessee Tech tennis team kicked off the first day of its final event of the fall with a win and a loss in the Wake Forest Fall Invitational.

Mika Berghaus and Elias Grubert both competed in singles action in Tech's autumn finale, with Berghaus securing a victory and Grubert a defeat in the tourney's opening day. Berghaus registered a first-round 7-6 (5), 2-6, 6-4 triumph over Charlotte's Thomas Brown, the No. 4 seed in the A1 Singles bracket, while Grubert was upended 6-2, 6-3 in the first round by NC State's Yannai Barkai, the top seed in the A2 Singles bracket.

Berghaus, who moved to 8-2 in singles play this fall, will lock up with Duke's Edu Guell in Saturday's quarterfinal. Grubert, who saw his fall solo ledger drop to 8-3, will greet Daniel Martin in Saturday's consolation quarterfinal.
