COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – With the start of the Tennessee Tech tennis spring campaign inching closer and closer, two Golden Eagles were recognized with a national preseason ranking by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
TTU's doubles tandem of Mika Berghaus and Elias Grubert secured a No. 38 national ranking, the only OVC duo to be ranked in the nation's top 60.
The Golden Eagle pair excelled during the fall, with Berghaus posting a 6-2 doubles ledger and Grubert registering a 4-1 duo mark during autumn competition. When the two locked up together, the tandem posted an undefeated 3-0 record.
Grubert heads into his junior season on the heels of a 2021 spring campaign that featured an All-OVC first team accolade for the Parana, Argentina product, his second career all-conference honor after taking home an All-OVC second-team award in 2019. Berghaus is fresh off a successful rookie season in the spring, highlighted by an unblemished singles record during league play.
Tech's spring campaign is slated to start in mid-January. The Golden Eagles have captured eight of the last 10 OVC regular-season titles and four of the last five OVC Tournament crowns.
