Golden Eagle tennis marches to Chattanooga for UTC Steve Baras Fall Classic

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech tennis team will embark on another in-state tournament over the weekend, as the Golden Eagles will head to Chattanooga to participate in the UTC Steve Baras Fall Classic Oct. 15-17. Tech's second-to-last event of the fall will feature three dual matches, with the Golden Eagles slated to square off with Austin Peay at 9 a.m. CT on Friday, North Alabama at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Georgia Southern at 9 a.m. on Sunday. Friday and Saturday will take place at UTC Courts, while Sunday's bout is set for the Champions Club.

Tech rolled through a similar tourney in its last time on the courts, as the Golden Eagles soared during singles action in the Belmont Fall Invitational in Nashville, Oct. 8-10. In three combined matches against Chattanooga, Belmont and Lipscomb, the purple and gold registered a 16-3 solo ledger.

Overall, Evzen Holis leads TTU with an 11-3 singles record, highlighted by a four-win showing that placed the 6-foot-2 sophomore out of Brno, Czech Republic all the way to the quarterfinals of the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals. Rafael Tosetto has been impressive with an 8-3 solo mark, while Andre Rodeia is 7-4, Elias Grubert is 6-1 and Mika Berghaus is 5-1 in solo action this fall.

Jun Sasagawa enters play in the Scenic City with a 4-1 singles account and Carlos Vicente has posted a 5-6 solo record throughout autumn play. Andre Rodeia has the team's best doubles mark at 5-3.
