Davis moves from student-athlete to staff for TTU basketball

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Former standout ball player Frank Davis returns to his alma mater to become the newest addition to the men's basketball staff, assuming the title of Director of Basketball Operations.

A graduate of the class of 2010 with a degree in Exercise Science and Physical Wellness, Davis began his transition from player to coach at Piedmont College during the 2010-11 season, before taking a graduate assistantship in coaching at Lee University from 2011-12.

"It's exciting to be back at Tech, I'm really looking forward to working with the staff that I used to play for," Davis said. "I'm thankful for the opportunity that Coach Payne has given me to come back. I'm looking forward to learning from the staff here and continuing to work with this program toward a championship."

Davis finished out his career at Tech at the top of the all-time three-point shooting list, having netted 251 buckets from downtown from 2006-2010. He logged two seasons with a three-point shooting accuracy of over 40 percent (42.9 percent in 2008-09 and 44.4 percent in 2009-10) and is No. 1 on the list of career games played with 125.

A standout in the classroom as well, Davis was four times named to the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll and earned a spot in Tech's 1,000 point club with 1,118 career points.

As the Director of Operations, Davis' primary responsibilities will include all film production, acquisition and exchange, as well as the coordination of travel. He will also assist with the day-to-day operations of the program.

"Frank was a tremendous player for us and we're looking for him to contribute in the same manner as a member of the staff," Golden Eagle head coach Steve Payne said. "He's well known in the community and well-respected as a former athlete here. His intangibles – a passion for the game and willingness to learn – make him a valuable asset to this program."

Davis is a native of Gainesville, Ga. and will continue to pursue his master's degree in education at Tennessee Tech.
