Johnson claims his second adidas® OVC Freshman of the Week honor

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Less than one month removed from his first adidas® OVC Freshman of the Week award, Tennessee Tech guard Lanerryl Johnson finds himself once again at the podium with his second such honor of the 2012-13 season.

A redshirt freshman out of Atlanta, Johnson claimed sole possession of the weekly honor just three weeks after receiving co-honors.

Johnson averaged 13 points per contest over the week, including his second 20-point performance of the season in the game against Tennessee State. His 21-point performance, which came in the Golden Eagles' first home contest in nearly three weeks, was the second-highest total of his Golden Eagle career.

One of six Georgia natives on the squad, Johnson's first 20-point outburst also occurred in the Eblen Center. He scored 22 points in a 74-68 win over Green Bay on Dec. 6. He currently ranks third on the Golden Eagles in scoring with 8.8 points per game.

Also nominated for the award this week were Murray State forward Jeffery Moss and UT Martin guard Dee Oldham. Receiving Player of the Week honors was M.J. Rhett of Tennessee State. The Newcomer of the Week award went to Travis Betran of Austin Peay.

The Golden Eagles will return to the hardwood Thursday when the team makes a northern trek to Charleston, Ill., to take on the Panthers of Eastern Illinois. Following the 7 p.m. CST contest, Tech will migrate southwest for a 7 p.m. tilt at SIU Edwardsville on Saturday.
