Tennessee Tech Baseball Midweek Preview (Apr. 20)

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech baseball team makes its return to Cookeville and the comfort of Quillen Field and Bush Stadium at the Averitt Express Baseball Complex, playing host to Ohio Valley Conference and in-state rival UT Martin in a three-game series this weekend.

With potential rain in the forecast for Friday evening, the series opener between the Golden Eagles and Skyhawks has been moved to a 3:00 p.m. CT start. Game two of the weekend is set for a 2:00 p.m. first pitch on Saturday while Sunday's finale is slated for 1:00 p.m. All three games are slated to be streamed live on ESPN+ with Dylan Vazzano on the call.

The Golden Eagles enter the weekend with some momentum, pulling off an impressive 12-5 victory at No. 19 nationally-ranked Tennessee Tuesday evening in Knoxville. The win marked Tech's second over the Vols in as many seasons and meetings.

Following a weekend sweep at the hands of Southeast Missouri last weekend, the purple and gold exploded offensively to down Tennessee in impressive fashion, racking up 18 hits against 11 different Vol hurlers. Clinging to a two-run lead heading into the ninth, Tech made its final inning with the bats count, dropping five insurance runs on the UT bullpen to all but clinch the victory.

UT Martin also boasts some momentum heading into the series, capturing victories in three of the last four contests. The Skyhawks picked up back-to-back wins against Southern Indiana last weekend, besting the Screaming Eagles 14-3 and 7-3 to clinch the series.

USI salvaged a win in Sunday's finale, plating runs in the eighth and ninth for a 7-5 decision. The Skyhawks bounced back Wednesday afternoon, besting Murray State in midweek action, 7-6.
