Tennessee Tech Baseball Weekend Preview (Mar. 2)

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech baseball team makes its way back out on the road for another four-game stretch, kicking off a series of three contests at first-time opponent Queens University of Charlotte Friday afternoon with a 3:00 p.m. CT tilt at Tuckaseegee Dream Fields.

Game two of the weekend is set for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch in Charlotte while the series finale will begin at noon.

The Golden Eagles snapped a five-game skid on Tuesday, besting in-state rival Lipscomb in a 10-5 victory at Quillen Field and Bush Stadium at the Averitt Express Baseball Complex. Starting pitcher Tyler Zarella turned in a solid outing, picking up his first win in the purple and gold after tossing five innings with four runs allowed and three strikeouts.

The Tech bats came alive, producing an early lead the Cookeville crew never relinquished. The Golden Eagles dropped four runs in the first, with Peyton Mills doing the heavy lifting on the power of a three-run blast to left-center field.

The purple and gold added to the advantage in the fourth, picking up a pair before Hayden Gilliland crushed his own three-run tank to right-center field. Theo Bryant IV made it three round-trippers on the day for Tech with a lead-off smash in the sixth.

Queens enters the action following a 16-6 defeat at the hands of Davidson, a contest that saw the Royals' early, 1-0 lead quickly dissipate. The Wildcats plated three in the first, four in the second, and four more across the next three frames to pull out of reach.

Last weekend, Queens picked up its first two victories as a Division I program, defeating Fairleigh Dickinson in the first two contests of a three-game series in Charlotte. The Royals rallied with a pair in the eighth of the opener to earn a 13-12 win before downing the Knights 12-7 on Saturday. FDU won the series finale, 7-6.
