Tennessee Tech Baseball Weekend Preview (Feb. 23)

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech baseball team continues its four-game road swing with its first series away from Cookeville this season, making the trip to Atlanta for a three-game set at No. 22 nationally-ranked Georgia Tech Friday through Sunday.

The series kicks off with a 3:00 p.m. CT tilt Friday afternoon at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium. Saturday's second contest will feature a 1:00 p.m. first pitch with Sunday's finale slated to begin at noon.

The Golden Eagles fell in their midweek match-up at No. 20 Alabama Tuesday afternoon, dropping a 7-4 decision that saw Tech take an immediate lead in the first. Tech shortstop Troy Baunsgard opened the day with a lead-off home run, but the Crimson Tide answered in the bottom of the first to take the lead.

Alabama jumped on top in the third and never looked back, despite a pair of comeback bids by the purple and gold. Tech first baseman made it a one-run ball game with a solo blast in the fourth, but that would mark the closest Golden Eagles would come to tying the contest.

After opening the season with a three-game sweep of Miami (Ohio), Georgia Tech "hit the road" for a Tuesday tilt at Georgia Southern. Despite facing a hefty deficit early, the Yellow Jackets fought back and turned in an 8-6 win to stay unbeaten on the early season.

Georgia Southern opened a 5-0 lead after the first inning, but Georgia Tech responded immediately with a four-spot in the second. Both sides traded a run in the bottom of the second and top of the third, but the Yellow Jackets broke through in the fifth to take the lead with three runs and hold off an Eagle comeback.
