Tennessee Tech Baseball Midweek Preview (Mar. 14)

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech baseball team will square off with longtime, in-state rival Middle Tennessee in midweek action Wednesday evening, taking on the Blue Raiders in a 6:00 p.m. CT tilt in Murfreesboro.

The Golden Eagles captured a pair of wins in a Saturday doubleheader to claim their weekend series with visiting North Alabama last week, winning one in dramatic fashion. After falling in the opener, 6-5, Tech looked well on its way to a second loss in the first of two games on Saturday.

Trailing 4-3 and down to its final out, the purple and gold rallied in the bottom of the ninth, with Theo Bryant IV drawing a five-pitch walk. Peyton Mills capped off the comeback, smashing a two-run, walk-off home run down the left-field line for a 5-4 win.

Tech plated five in the fourth inning of game two on the day, using long balls from Troy Baunsgard and Hayden Gilliland to provide the damage. The Golden Eagles went on to earn a 7-3 victory for the series win.

Middle Tennessee comes into the midweek affair after falling to Evansville in two of their three match-ups at Reese Smith Jr. Field over the weekend. The Blue Raiders opened the series with a 2-0 victory thanks to a complete-game, one-hit shutout behind Jaden Hamm.

On Saturday, a comeback bid fell short for Middle Tennessee in a 5-3 loss. The Blue Raiders plated one in the bottom of the ninth, but the rally stopped there. Evansville made it a second 5-3 win on Sunday, holding the Middle without a run until staving off a three-run rally in the ninth.
