Tennessee Tech Baseball Midweek Preview (Feb. 27)
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech baseball team makes it back home for a brief break from the road, playing host to in-state rival Lipscomb Tuesday afternoon in a 3:00 p.m. contest at Quillen Field and Bush Stadium at the Averitt Express Baseball Complex.
The Golden Eagles fell in all three of their road contests at No. 22 nationally-ranked Georgia Tech over the weekend, despite owning leads in each affair in Atlanta. Big eighth innings by the Yellow Jackets led to wins of 12-3 and 10-4 on Friday and Saturday, both games much closer prior to the frame.
On Sunday, Tech took a 4-0 lead in the first frame, but Georgia Tech showed the consistency of its offense by scoring in each of the next six innings for the 11-7 victory. The win kept the Yellow Jackets as one of 13 unbeaten teams in the nation.
Lipscomb enters the contest with a 5-2 mark on the year after taking wins in each of its last two contests of a three-game set against UIC over the weekend. After falling to the Flames 7-5 on Friday, the Bisons rebounded for victories of 9-8 and 7-4 to close the series.
Tuesday will represent Lipscomb's first road tilt of the season after hosting Notre Dame on opening weekend and claiming a pair of victories. The Bisons also hosted Tech's newest Ohio Valley Conference rival, Southern Indiana, last Tuesday, besting the Screaming Eagles 6-4 in Nashville.
