Tennessee Tech Baseball Midweek Preview (Apr. 10)

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech baseball team opens a five-game road swing with a return trip to in-state rival Lipscomb Tuesday evening, squaring off with the Bisons in a 6:00 p.m. CT tilt in Nashville. The contest is slated to be streamed live on ESPN+.

The Golden Eagles head into the contest after snapping a five-game skid on Saturday and finishing the weekend 1-2. The purple and gold fell in a pair of very different contests to new Ohio Valley Conference foe Lindenwood to open the weekend series.

In the opener, the Lions received a complete-game shutout from its starter to earn a 6-0 win. The Lindenwood squad followed it up with an offensive onslaught, outscoring Tech 19-12 in a barn burner.

The Tech squad salvaged a 4-3 victory in the series behind a stellar pitching performance from junior Hunter Mann, who fanned 11 batters without issuing a walk across six innings. He allowed just two earned runs and three total while earning his first win of the year and picking up Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week powered by Diamond Sports honors.

Tech picked up its first OVC win of the year last Saturday, outlasting Morehead State on the road in 10 innings, 17-12. The Eagles bested the purple and gold in the final two contests of the series, 10-7 and 4-3.

In the first match-up between these two teams back on Feb. 28, the Golden Eagles came out on top of a 10-5 decision in Cookeville. Tech led by as much as 9-1 in the fourth inning, courtesy of a pair of three-run home runs by Peyton Mills and Hayden Gilliland.

Lipscomb enjoyed a highly successful week last week, finishing 4-0 with a huge, midweek victory at No. 18 nationally-ranked Louisville, 12-7. The Bisons followed it up with a 7-2 win at North Alabama to kick off a three-game weekend series.

After watching Friday's second tilt moved to Saturday due to inclement weather, Lipscomb secured a second 7-2 victory to open a doubleheader. The Lions capped the weekend sweep with a 13-2 win in eight innings, plating six in the top of the eighth to earn the run-rule win.
