Tennessee Tech Baseball Weekend Preview (Apr. 13)

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech baseball team continues its five-game road swing with a trek to Cape Girardeau, Mo. and a three-game, Ohio Valley Conference series at Southeast Missouri starting Friday evening.

First pitch for Friday's series opener is set for 6:00 p.m. CT while the second game is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start on Saturday. The finale will kick off at 1:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. All three contests are slated to be streamed live on ESPN+.

The Golden Eagles head into the contest after falling in a midweek match-up at in-state rival Lipscomb Tuesday evening, 4-1. The Bisons avenged a 10-5 victory by the Golden Eagles in Cookeville at the end of February.

Last weekend, Tech snapped a five-game skid on Saturday and while finishing the weekend 1-2. The purple and gold fell in a pair of very different contests to new Ohio Valley Conference foe Lindenwood to open the weekend series.

In the opener, the Lions received a complete-game shutout from its starter to earn a 6-0 win. The Lindenwood squad followed it up with an offensive onslaught, outscoring Tech 19-12 in a barn burner.

The Tech squad salvaged a 4-3 victory in the series behind a stellar pitching performance from junior Hunter Mann, who fanned 11 batters without issuing a walk across six innings. He allowed just two earned runs and three total while earning his first win of the year and picking up Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week powered by Diamond Sports honors.

Tech picked up its first OVC win of the year last Saturday, outlasting Morehead State on the road in 10 innings, 17-12. The Eagles bested the purple and gold in the final two contests of the series, 10-7 and 4-3.

The Redhawks come into the weekend after falling in a midweek tilt at Southern Illinois, 8-5. Prior to the Tuesday loss, SEMO took two of three at Southern Indiana to move to 7-2 in OVC play, besting the Screaming Eagles in a pair of blowouts.

After cruising to a 13-4 win in the opener last Thursday, the Redhawks fell to USI in the second tilt on Friday, 9-6. Saturday's finale went to Southeast Missouri, a 14-2 decision in seven innings in Evansville.
