Tennessee Tech Baseball Midweek Preview (May 11)
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech baseball is set for a return trip to Knoxville Tuesday evening, squaring off with No. 4 Tennessee in a 5:30 p.m. CT tilt at Lindsey Nelson Stadium in midweek action.
This marks the second meeting between the two in-state foes this season, with the Vols squeaking out a 3-2 victory in the first match-up back on April 20. Both sides scored in the opening frame and the game would remain deadlocked at 1-1 all the way until the bottom of the sixth.
Tennessee took the lead with an unearned run, but Cody Littlejohn delivered the game-tying knock in the top of the eighth. The Vols went on to win with a walk-off single up the middle in the ninth. Tech's Brock Myers was dominant out of the bullpen, tossing five innings of relief with six strikeouts, no walks and just one, unearned run allowed.
The Golden Eagles on a four-game winning streak after sweeping Ohio Valley Conference foe Morehead State in Cookeville over the weekend. The purple and gold captured a trio of one-run wins, capped by a thrilling, come-from-behind, walk-off win in the series finale.
The Vols also enter the contest with four straight victories, sweeping Southeastern Conference rival Missouri on the road. Tennessee picked up wins of 5-4, 11-4 and 10-2 to move up one spot in the national polls to No. 4.
