COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech baseball team has announced its 2021 slate, with 50 games currently on tap for the Golden Eagles.

Tech will host 23 games in the comfort of Quillen Field and Bush Stadium at the Averitt Express Baseball Complex, including the first seven of the year. As with all schedules this season, in response to the COVID-19 situation as well as weather, the dates and times are subject to change.

For the 2021 season, the Ohio Valley Conference has reverted back to doubleheaders on the weekend, which will carry over to the non-conference slate as well for the Golden Eagles. Most OVC series will be a single game on Friday, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday.

The purple and gold will open its second year under the direction of head coach Steve Smith with a three-game series against Southern Illinois, beginning on Friday, Feb. 19. A doubleheader is set to follow on Feb. 20. The following weekend welcomes Mid-American Conference power Kent State to Cookeville with another Friday single game on Feb. 26 before a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 27.

The Golden Eagles will feature eight midweek contests during the campaign, starting with a Mar. 2 match-up with North Alabama. Tech returns the trip to Florence, Ala. on Mar. 16. Other midweek match-ups on the year include trips to Southeastern Conference foes Vanderbilt (Mar. 30), Tennessee (Apr. 20 and May 11) and Kentucky (May 18). A pair of single contests with Belmont, being played as non-conference affairs, include a Mar. 23 game at Quillen Field and a return trip to Nashville on Apr. 27.

The first road trip of the season for the purple and gold is another SEC opponent, with the Golden Eagles headed south for a three-game series at Mississippi State from Mar. 5-7. Tech's other non-conference weekend series features a trek east for three games at the College of Charleston. The match-up will begin with a doubleheader on Apr. 10 and conclude with a single contest on Apr. 11.

Tech kicks off OVC play Mar. 12-13, visiting in-state rival Austin Peay. Other road trips in league play include visits to Jacksonville State (Mar. 26-27), Southeast Missouri (Apr. 16-17), Eastern Kentucky (Apr. 30-May 1) and UT Martin (May 14-15). The Golden Eagles will host Eastern Illinois (Mar. 19-20), Murray State (Apr. 1-2), Belmont (Apr. 23-24), Morehead State (May 8-9) and SIUE (May 21-22).

All games at the Quillen Field are free to the public, but COVID restrictions will be in place. Details on those will come at a later date. Selected games will also be broadcast on ESPN+ (subscription required) with the schedule still to be determined.
