Tennessee Tech Baseball Midweek Preview (Mar. 23)
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech baseball team will stick around Cookeville to host its final home, midweek tilt of the year Tuesday afternoon, welcoming in-state rival Belmont to Quillen Field and Bush Stadium at the Averitt Express Baseball Complex in a contest that will not affect Ohio Valley Conference standings.
The Golden Eagles (8-6) enter the contest after a 3-1 week on the diamond, including a league series win over Eastern Illinois. The Tech offense averaged 10.5 runs per game over the span, including a season-high 18 in the midweek victory at North Alabama.
Sophomore Ed Johnson led the purple and gold on the week, garnering OVC Player of the Week honors for his efforts. The shortstop gathered nine hits in 18 at-bats for a .500 average and slugged 1.000 with a .550 on-base percentage. He scored eight runs and drove in 11 while smashing his first three home runs as a member of the Tech program.
Belmont (6-9) is coming off its first OVC series win of the year, taking two-of-three from SIUE at home over the weekend. The Bruins earned wins of 11-0 and 2-1 to open the series, but the Cougars avoided the sweep with a 5-2 victory in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader.
