BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech shortstop Ed Johnson took home his team's first Ohio Valley Conference weekly honor of the 2021 campaign Monday afternoon, earning Player of the Week accolades after a monster week all over the diamond for the Golden Eagle baseball team.

Leading the purple and gold to a 3-1 mark, the Auburn transfer gathered nine hits in 18 at-bats for a .500 average and slugged 1.000 with a .550 on-base percentage. He scored eight runs and drove in 11 while smashing his first three home runs as a member of the Tech program. Johnson also finished 2-for-3 on stolen base attempts during the week while playing perfect defense at shortstop.

The sophomore turned in a career day in Tech's 18-4 win at North Alabama, collecting three hits in six trips to the plate, including a grand slam. He drove in a career-high six runners to pace the offensive effort. Johnson followed it up with a pair of hits in the series opener against Eastern Illinois, blasting a two-run shot in the first inning and adding a third RBI later in the contest.

In the second game of the doubleheader with the Panthers, he tallied another two hits while scoring three runs. He connected for his third round-tripper of the week to drive in a pair in the extra-inning, walk-off victory. Johnson rounded out the week with two more base knocks and three more runs scored in the series finale, a 9-1 Tech win.

Johnson leads the Golden Eagles on the year with a .432 average, 17 RBI and a .730 slugging percentage. He has scored 14 runs on 16 hits with three dingers and two doubles in just 10 games of action.
