Tennessee Tech Baseball Weekend Preview (Apr. 10-11)

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech baseball team will take a break from Ohio Valley Conference play this weekend, using their bye from league action to take a trip to Mt. Pleasant, S.C. and a three-game series with the College of Charleston starting Saturday, Apr. 10.

It will be more than a full week since the Golden Eagles last took the diamond when their weekend series with the Cougars commences, having played Murray State in OVC action last Thursday and Friday. The purple and gold dropped a pair of close ones to the Racers to open the series, but rallied for a 5-4 win in the third contest.

A home run derby early, all the scoring in the tilt came in the first three innings. Tech hurlers Jackson Berry and Grant Phillips combined to hold Murray State off the scoreboard the final six innings, with Phillips picking up a three-inning save without allowing a hit.

College of Charleston split its last four contests, dropping two-of-three at James Madison in Colonial Athletic Association play over the weekend before claiming a midweek win over The Citadel. Much like the Golden Eagles, the Cougars fell in their first two games of their conference series, rallying for a 3-1 win in the Sunday finale.

Charleston tied the contest with The Citadel in the eighth inning before walking things off for a 5-4 win in the ninth. The Cougars' other midweek tilt, a Wednesday affair with Coastal Carolina, was postponed due to COVID-19 protocols within the Chanticleers program.
