Tennessee Tech Baseball Weekend Preview (Apr. 30-May 1)
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech baseball team continues through Ohio Valley Conference play this weekend, visiting Richmond, Ky. for a three-game set with Eastern Kentucky starting Friday, Apr. 30.
First pitch is slated for a 5:00 p.m. CT start and will be the only contest streamed during the weekend, available on ESPN+. Saturday's doubleheader will kick off at 12:00 p.m. with the second contest set to follow at approximately 3:00 p.m.
The Golden Eagles enter the weekend after a thrilling, comeback victory over in-state foe Belmont Tuesday evening in Nashville. Trailing by two runs with a pair of outs in the top of the ninth inning, first baseman Golston Gillespie stepped to the plate and delivered the biggest hit of his young, Tech career. The slugger blasted a two-run jack to left field to tie the game.
In the 10th, right fielder Theo Bryant IV put the purple and gold on top for good, ripping an RBI single to right-center field for the game-winning RBI. Southpaw Jackson Berry was brilliant out of the bullpen, finishing the final five innings of the contest with just one run allowed and five strikeouts.
The Colonels dropped a heartbreaker at Kentucky Tuesday evening in its midweek tilt, falling to the Wildcats 7-6 in Lexington. EKU owned a 6-5 advantage after the top of the sixth, but Kentucky rallied with a two-run double in the bottom of the eighth to hand Eastern Kentucky its fourth-straight loss.
