Tennessee Tech Baseball Midweek Preview (Mar. 16)
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech baseball team returns to action Tuesday evening, making a return trip to Florence, Ala. to take on North Alabama in a 5:00 p.m. CT tilt at Mike D. Lane Field. The contest is slated to be streamed on ESPN+.
The Golden Eagles (5-5) enter the rematch with the Lions (1-12) after a successful Ohio Valley Conference opening weekend at Austin Peay, claiming a pair of contests in the three-game series in Clarksville. Tech took game one 13-6 Saturday before the Govs evened things with a 6-2 win in the first game of a Sunday doubleheader.
The purple and gold responded in kind, erupting for a 12-0 win in seven innings in the second contest of the day, taking its first OVC series on the road since taking two-of-three at Southeast Missouri Apr. 19-20, 2019.
Returning freshman Brett Roberts collected a team-high six hits in 13 trips to the plate over the weekend, batting .462 with a pair of doubles and five RBI. Preseason OVC Player of the Year Jason Hinchman smacked a home run, a triple and drove in three while hitting .400.
Redshirt sophomore Golston Gillespie turned in a monster performance on the weekend, crushing three home runs, including a grand slam, and driving in a team-high seven runs. He slugged 1.182 while batting .364.
Southpaw Ty Fisher was a beast on the hill for the purple and gold, tossing a complete-game shutout in the seven-inning contest on Sunday. It marked 12 straight scoreless frames for the returning freshman, who also pitched five frames without allowing a run in a win over the Lions last week.
