Pitcher’s duel favors Southeast Missouri in series finale

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. --- Tennessee Tech starter David Hess and Southeast Missouri starter Dylan Lynn were on their game Sunday afternoon as SEMO edge out a 3-1 Ohio Valley Conference victory as both teams combined for just 11 hits.

Lynn (3-0) was the story of the game as he threw a complete game while allowing just one run, on six hits while striking out eight. Hess (2-4) in turn, threw an eight-inning complete game as he struck out a career-high 10 batters, while giving up three runs, two of which were earned.

The Redhawks struck first as Taylor Heon drove in the game's first run with an RBI-single in the second inning. SEMO added an additional run in the third off a sacrifice fly from Jason Tierney and another in the fifth off a sacrifice fly from Trenton Moses in the fifth.

Trailing 3-0 through five, the Golden Eagles finally got a run off Lynn with an RBI-single from Chad Hayes in the top of the sixth, but that was all TTU could muster as Lynn finished his complete game with a 3-1 win.

Kenton Parmley had his 47-game hitting streak snapped by David Hess as he flied out twice and reached on a fielder's choice and was hit by a pitch.

The Golden Eagles (17-22, 7-8 OVC) begin a seven-game homestand Tuesday as they host Middle Tennessee at 6 p.m.
