COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --- The hits and runs came at a premium in game one of Tennessee Tech's three-game series with Evansville, as the Golden Eagles and Purple Aces combined for five runs and 12 hits in Evansville's 4-1 win.
Tech starter Tristan Archer and Evansville starter Cole Isom kept the opposing batters in check all game long as they combined for 15 inning pitched and 14 strikeouts, while giving up just three earned runs.
Evansville struck first in the third inning as the Purple Aces used one hit and two TTU fielding errors to tally the first run of the contest.
The Purple Aces added an additional two runs in the fifth as Eric Stamets drove in a run on a sacrifice fly to left field, while Jake Mahon tallied the other RBI with a double down the right field line.
Tech answered in the bottom of the fifth, as Michael Morris drove in Dylan Bosheers to bring TTU within two at 3-1.
Evansville managed to get an unearned run off Tech reliever Seth Lucio in the top of the ninth to extend its lead to 4-1.
In the eighth, Evansville called on its bullpen to finish the game as Jake Naumann and Josh Biggs recorded the final six outs, with Biggs earning his third save of the season.
Tech starter Tristan Archer, who made his fourth appearance of the season, went eight innings, posting nine strikeouts as he fell to 2-1 on the season.
UE starter Cole Isom, who threw seven innings, improved to 2-1 on the season as gave up just one run, while striking out five.
Austin Wulf extended his hitting streak to 13 games as he notched a single to left field in the third inning.
Game two between the Golden Eagles and Purple Aces is set for Saturday at 2 p.m.
