Boys of Summer: Kirby-Jones and Oberacker heating it up in Single-A

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --- Former Tennessee Tech baseball players A.J. Kirby-Jones and Chad Oberacker are making their presence known as they have combined for 20 hits in their last 10 games for the Stockton Ports.

Kirby-Jones and Oberacker are two of six former Golden Eagles playing professional baseball with two others in Double-A, one in short season Single-A and one playing for the Seattle Mariners.

A.J. Kirby-Jones – (Advanced Single-A, Stockton Ports)

Kirby-Jones has tallied eight hits in his last 10 games for the Ports and is currently batting .287 on the season. In his last 10 games, he has driven in six runs and has coaxed six walks. On the season he is second on the Ports in home runs (13) and RBIs (46) and has walked a team-high 47 times.

Chad Oberacker – (Advanced Single-A, Stockton Ports)

Oberacker has batted .308 in his last 10 games and is now batting .282 on the season with 22 RBIs, 24 runs scored and a team-leading 15 stolen bases. He has tallied 12 hits in his last 10 games, including a stretch of four straight games with two hits in each outing. He has also coaxed 11 walks during that same stretch and has stolen five bases.

Stephen Pryor – Seattle Mariners

Back on June 12, Pryor recorded one out for the Mariners before being placed on the 15-day disabled list. In six appearances for the Mariners, Pryor has posted a 1.69 ERA with five strikeouts in 5.1 innings pitched.

Adam Liberatore – (Montgomery Biscuits, Double-A)

Liberatore has made five appearances for the Biscuits in the last two weeks and has thrown a total of six innings. In his most recent outing, he earned his sixth save of the season as he got the final two outs against Mobile. Liberator is 3-3 on the season and has thrown a total of 38 innings while striking out 17 batters.

Ryan Dennick – Northwest Arkansas Naturals (Kansas City Royals, Double-A)

Dennick has made four appearances for the Naturals in the last two weeks and has posted a 1-0 record and one save during that span. On the season, Dennick has thrown 21.2 innings and has struck out 17 batters.

Matthew Shepherd – Eugene Emeralds (San Diego Padres, Single-A Short Season)

Shepherd has made five appearances for the Emeralds and has put together a 1-1 record. He has thrown a total of six innings and has struck out 10 batters, including three batters in each of his last two games.
