COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --- The runs came in bunches for the Tennessee Tech baseball team Sunday afternoon as it earned its first Ohio Valley Conference sweep of the season as it downed Murray State 8-7.

Tech's biggest inning came in the third as the Golden Eagles trailed 4-0. MSU had tallied three runs in the top of the frame to extend its lead to four, but the Golden Eagles answered right back in the bottom of the inning as they rallied for five runs on four hits.

Chad Hayes opened the inning with a single up the middle and eventually came around to score on an RBI-single from Dylan Bosheers. Ben Burgess single to right to load the bases for Zach Stephens, who knocked a first pitch grand slam to right center to give the Golden Eagles a 5-4 lead.

Garrett Baugh, who came on in relief of TTU starter Seth Lucio, kept MSU off the scoreboard through the fourth and fifth innings, but in the sixth, Murray State was able to bring in the tying run off an RBI-single from Jacob Rhodes.

Still tied at five into the bottom of the seventh, the Golden Eagles rallied for three runs on five hits to extend their lead to 8-5. Hayes, Bosheers and Stephens each drove in a run with an RBI-single.

Murray State managed to pull back within one at 8-7 in the top of the ninth as Brandon Eggenschwiler knocked a two-run shot to right. Burgess, who came on in relief of Baugh, set the next three batters down for his second save of the season as Tech completed the sweep with an 8-7 victory.

Baugh (2-2) earned the win as he threw 5.2 innings, while giving up three runs. Lucio threw 2.1 innings at the start of the game and allowed four runs, while posting four strikeouts.

MSU starter Brian Babin (2-2) took the loss as he gave up eight runs in 6.2 innings, while striking out six. Alex Gordon threw 1.1 innings in his second relief appearance of the series for the Racers as he allowed just one hit and a walk.

Tech (12-15, 4-2 OVC) continues OVC play as it heads to Jacksonville State for a three-game series beginning Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
