COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tennessee Tech starting pitcher Tristan Archer had things rolling Friday evening, keeping the Murray State batters off balance all night long as he led the Golden Eagles to a 6-1 victory to open a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series at Bush Stadium in the Averitt Express Baseball Complex.

Archer, who improved to 3-1 on the season, threw his first complete game of the season and second of his career as he allowed just one run on four hits and struck out seven.

Defensively, TTU middle infielders Chad Hayes and Dylan Bosheers each helped Archer's cause as they turned two double plays and combined for nine putouts in the field.

From the get-go, Archer had complete control of the game as he faced the minimum of nine batters through the first three innings, allowing just one MSU hit. He continued his torrid pace in the middle innings as the Racers failed to get a run on the scoreboard.

Archer gave up his lone run in the seventh, but that was all he would allow as he set MSU down in order in the eighth and allowed just one walk in the ninth to secure the win for Tech.

While Archer dominated on the mound, the TTU batters made life difficult for MSU starter Tyler Beers as they tallied four runs on 10 hits in 5.2 innings.

TTU leadoff hitter Austin Wulf led off the bottom of the first with a double and eventually scored to put TTU on top 1-0. Zach Stephens did not waste any time either as he belted his 11th home run of the season in the bottom of the first to put Tech up 2-0.

Tech hitters would tack on four more runs, two of which came off a pair of RBI singles from Bosheers, to extend TTU's lead to 6-1.

Beers (3-2) took the loss as gave up four runs in 5.2 innings. Luke Shuemaker, who came on in relief of Beers in the sixth, gave up two runs in 2.1 innings.

Bosheers led the Tech offense with three hits and two RBI, while Wulf and Stephens each scored two runs.

Game two of the series is set for Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
