TTU concludes regular season with three-game series against Austin Peay

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --- With postseason implications on the line this weekend, the Tennessee Tech baseball team will host a three-game series against Ohio Valley Conference foe Austin Peay that will be highlighted by Saturday's Senior and Alumni Day.

Game one of the series is scheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m., with game two following Friday at 6 p.m. and game three schedule for Saturday at 1 p.m.

TTU (20-30, 9-14) currently sits one win behind Morehead State and Southeast Missouri who have identical conference records of 10-14. If all of this week's games are played, TTU will have to win one more game than either MSU or SEMO to secure one of the final two playoff spots.

Southeast Missouri hosts a three-game series with SIU Edwardsville, while Morehead State hosts UT Martin. SIUE currently boasts a 26-26 record, but is not eligible for the postseason tournament this season. UT Martin sits in last place in the OVC standings with a 7-17 league record.

Austin Peay (32-20, 17-6 OVC) enters the series with a one-game lead over Eastern Kentucky for the top spot in the OVC standings. The Governors had their three-game winning streak snapped Tuesday as they fell to Belmont 4-3. In their last conference action, the Governors put together a three-game sweep of Morehead State as they outscored the Eagles 32-6 during their series.

Leading the Golden Eagle offense is Zach Stephens, who ranks first on the team in several offensive categories including hits (74), batting average (.383), RBIs (50), runs (43) and home runs (17). TTU has five other players batting at least .311 on the season, including James Abraham who has tallied 22 RBIs, while batting .333.

APSU has two players with at least 51 RBIs on the season including Jordan Hankins (55) and Greg Bachman (51). Bachman leads the Governors with 12 home runs, while Hankins leads the team with 66 hits.

Saturday will also be Senior Day and Alumni Day for the Golden Eagles as they honor their four seniors Ben Burgess, Chad Hayes, Matthew Shepherd and Cullen Park, as well as all of the past Golden Eagle baseball players.
