Austin Peay hands Tech a 10-4 loss in series finale

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --- A six-run top of the third inning proved to be the decisive event Saturday afternoon as Tennessee Tech fell to Austin Peay 10-4 in the Golden Eagles season finale.

As it was in Friday's encounter, the Governors jumped out to a quick lead as they opened the game with a three-run first inning, and extended their lead to 9-0 after they put together a six-run third inning.

In the third, Greg Bachman launched a three-run homer to left field to get the scoring for the Governors before chasing TTU starter David Hess. Tech reliever Nick Price entered the game in relief but allowed three more runs to score, two of which came off a two-run shot from Tyler Childress.

The Golden Eagles managed to get four runs on the board, but they could not climb back into the game as the APSU pitching staff kept the damage to a minimum every time TTU threatened to put together a big inning.

APSU starter Andy Cox (5-1) earned the win as he gave up four runs, three earned, in five innings of work. Mike Hebert, Ryan Quick and Zane Leffew threw the final four innings for the Governors as they gave up a total of two hits.

Hess (3-7) took the loss as he gave up seven runs in 2.1 innings pitched. Price gave up three additional runs in 2.2 innings, before giving way to Cullen Park, who stuck out five batters in four shutout innings, while giving up just one hit.

Bachman posted a game-high four hits and four RBIs, while Childress notched two hits and two runs batted in.

Austin Wulf, Chad Hayes and Dylan Bosheers all tallied a team-high two hits. Hayes, Ben Burgess and James Abraham each drove in one RBI as well.
