BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – As Tennessee Tech opened the Ohio Valley Conference women's basketball slate 2-0 this past weekend, and earning the program's 1,000th victory and the 100th for head coach Kim Rosamond, redshirt freshman Reagan Hurst collected a pretty good week herself.
Averaging 11.5 points and 6.0 rebounds in Tech's conference-opening victories over SIUE and Lindenwood, Hurst was an overwhelming favorite for this week's OVC Freshman of the Week honor, as selected by the league's sports information contacts.
Hurst, a product out of nearby Upperman High School, started her week with an 11-point performance at SIUE, pulling down six rebounds, while also collecting four assists (tying her career-best) and three steals. She continued her effort on Saturday at Lindenwood, scoring 12 points – including a 4-for-4 performance at the free-throw line, while collecting six rebounds, three assists and setting a new career-high in steals with five.
The Bloomington Springs native has started all 12 games for the Golden Eagles (8-4, 2-0 OVC), averaging 24.1 minutes, 9.2 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. She is shooting .398 from the field, .429 from 3-point range and .757 at the free-throw line.
The Golden Eagles return to the Hooper Eblen Center on Thursday for an important matchup against Eastern Illinois, who currently has the best overall record in the OVC at 10-3, 2-0 in the conference. Tipoff for that game Thursday is set for 5:30 p.m.
Thursday's game is also Upper Cumberland Night with area fans able to get half-off admission to the night's doubleheader.
