Getting to know: Reghan Grimes

Every student-athlete has a story, details about themselves and their background that extend beyond just the playing field and athletics.

Throughout the summer, we will take a look at the members of the Tennessee Tech women's basketball team and get to know more about them, the student-athletes who are representing not just their home communities, but also the University, Cookeville and the Upper Cumberland as they don the purple and gold. We asked the team to provide 10 facts about themselves that they want you, the fans, to know about them.

Today's subject is freshman Reghan Grimes. Named the 2022 Williamson County Female Basketball Athlete of the Year and Female Athlete of the Year, Grimes was a tremendous athlete at Ravenwood High School and could be an exciting player to watch this season for the Golden Eagles.

Here's 10 things Grimes wants you to know about her:

  1. Though track isn't my main sport, I've had plenty of success on the field. Not only have I won state four times -- back-to-back in both shot put and discus my junior and senior year – I am also the current Tennessee state record-holder in the discus with a throw of 161 ft., 7 in. It's super cool because I also had several offers to continue to throw at the next level just as I had several to continue playing basketball at the next level.
  2. My family is full of high-level athletes. My parents met at the University of Alabama where my dad (Reggie) played football and my mom (Mikaela) ran track. My dad also spent some time playing pro. Then there's my sister (Maya) who ran D-I track (at Louisiana Tech) and my brother (Reggie) who is currently playing D-I football (at Oklahoma).
  3. One of my favorite shows for a really long time has been Grey's Anatomy. It was definitely the show I binged the most of and it is actually what pushed my interest further to the pre-med track.
  4. My favorite WNBA player is A'ja Wilson. Growing up watching her at South Carolina made me want to have the same impact on a team that she has.
  5. I don't have a favorite genre of music because I practically listen to everything. My go-to pregame songs would be either "Good Time" by Niko Moon, "The Show Goes On" by Lupe Fiasco, "Memories" by David Guetta, "STAY" by The Kid LAROI or "Seeing Green" by Nicki Minaj & Drake.
  6. I think the most interesting fact I know is that tigers have striped skin, not just striped fur.
  7. I don't consider myself a foodie, however, I do eat out a lot, so I have a wide variety of different favorite places and my favorite types of food are Italian or hibachi. I'd say my favorite food in general is chicken alfredo.
  8. If I had a side career after I was done with all the serious stuff, I would choose to have a talk show. One of the first people I would have on it is Zendaya because she's super interesting and I feel like we'd have a good flow going with our senses of humor.
  9. I haven't played in a while but, when I was younger, I was in an orchestra and I played the viola. I wish I'd stuck with it and maybe, at some point, I'll pick it back up again.
