Getting to know: Peyton Carter

Getting to know: Peyton Carter

Every student-athlete has a story, details about themselves and their background that extend beyond just the playing field and athletics.

Throughout the summer, we will take a look at the members of the Tennessee Tech women's basketball team and get to know more about them, the student-athletes who are representing not just their home communities, but also the University, Cookeville and the Upper Cumberland as they don the purple and gold. We asked the team to provide 10 facts about themselves that they want you, the fans, to know about them.

Today's subject is junior Peyton Carter. A standout guard from Abingdon, Va., Carter had a breakout performance in the 2021-22 season, earning 15 starts and playing a crucial role for the Golden Eagles as she saw her numbers improve across the board.

Here's 10 things Carter wants you to know about her:

  1. Somewhere along my childhood I had the desire to learn how to juggle. I think it was after I went to a circus in Johnson City that I went home and juggled tennis balls in my driveway for hours and for days. I finally have mastered it and can juggle just about anything! (Anything except the flaming sticks, I haven't tried those yet lol)
  2. My sister and I grew up in a neighborhood full of guys and while she was inside playing school, I wanted to be outside with the boys so we would play wiffleball games every afternoon after school. I ended up playing baseball until 6th grade on the Little League and All-Star teams. I played first base, catcher and pitcher and I was good at it. A lot of embarrassment happened out there on that field when these boys were getting struck out by a girl.
  3. I could sit down and do a puzzle for hours. I am a busybody and always must be doing something. Most of the time I am cleaning, but, when it comes to a puzzle, I could sit down and do it for hours.
  4. I have a twin brother. His name is River, and since we've graduated high school we have become best friends. He is also an athlete -- he plays D-II football at Emory and Henry College.
  5. One of my hobbies is playing Guitar Hero with my roommate Ansley. We also like to play Just Dance on the Wii. At the end of freshman year, Ansley and I probably played them 15 hours a week.
  6. Coach Rose challenged me in the spring that I needed to use my right hand more often so the past four months I've been brushing my teeth and eating my food with my right hand. I would consider myself ambidextrous now.
  7. My favorite movie is Avatar and I am so excited for the second one to come out!
  8. One of my favorite things to do in Cookeville is to go hiking or to the movies with my teammates. My favorite place so far has been Waterloo. I also really appreciate the Tech discount at the movie theater allowing us to see a movie for only $4!
  9. I love animals so much that I dream to have a huge piece of land when I am older so that I can have farm animals, fishes in the pond, all kinds of pets in and around my house. I would love to go around and rescue every animal that I see and give it a home at my house.
  10. I am an iron eagle! That is the highest award you can get in the weight room at Tech.
