Golden Eagles to host two midweek twinbills

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Tech softball team is stepping outside of the Ohio Valley Conference this week, hosting East Tennessee State on Tuesday and Appalachian State on Wednesday. Both twinbills are schedued to begin at 3 p.m.

The Golden Eagles (20-24, 14-11 OVC) is coming off of a weekend sweep against OVC foe SIU Edwardsville and have won five in a row at home. 

The Golden Eagles have been led by senior Holly Thomas’ strong pitching in 2012, as she has earned 14 of Tennessee Tech’s 20 wins and has recorded three shutouts, while also limiting opponents to an OVC-best .203 batting average. At the plate, sophomore outfielder Kayla Floyd is hitting .375 in limited action at the plate, and junior infielder Chanelle Spalding leads Tennessee Tech in hits (37) and run scored (19) in 44 games played.  

ETSU (11-30) broke its 24-game conference losing streak Saturday with a 3-1 win over Stetson. A pair of Tennessee natives, Annie Martin and Alex Everett, lead the Bucs with 40 hits apiece. Tech hold the all-time lead against ETSU, winning 12 of the 15 matchups. The Bucs are 1-11 on the road this season with their only win coming at Liberty (3/6)

Appalachian State enters the series with a record of 18-21 and is 6-11 on the road. The Mountaineers have won just one of their last seven road contests (at Elon, 4/18) and are entering the final week of their regular season. They are currently being led by Allie Cashion, who has racked up 14 home runs and 43 RBIs while batting .396 on the season. 

Admission is free to both series at the Tech Softball Field.

The Golden Eagles will hit the road Saturday for a doubleheader against SEC foe Mississippi State before rounding out the OVC regular season with a trip to Morehead State.
