Golden Eagles look to stay unbeaten in OVC play as Skyhawks visit for three

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Coming off of a three-game sweep at Austin Peay, the Tennessee Tech softball team will look to remain undefeated in Ohio Valley Conference play this weekend as it hosts UT-Martin.

The three-game series begins on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. and concludes Sunday with a single game at 1 p.m.

The Skyhawks enter the game with a record of 13-10 and are also undefeated in the OVC as they swept SIU-Edwardsville a week ago.

UT-Martin has won its last four games, including one against common-opponent Western Kentucky. Meanwhile, the Golden Eagles begin the weekend with a record of 9-12, with their last loss coming on Tuesday at WKU by a score of 1-0.

Offense is the key for the Skyhawks, who average more than four runs per game. They boast five players who have hit multiple home runs and have double-digit RBI. Defensively, they are led by pitcher Chelsea Jones, who has pitched complete games in 11 of her 12 starts this season with a 9-3 record.

On Saturday, the softball team will host the first Sharon Speiser Memorial Weekend, honoring the mother/aunt of four former Golden Eagle players. Sharon's battle with breast cancer inspired coach Tory Acheson and his team to host this event to raise awareness and provide education about this terrible disease.

Special t-shirts will be for sale that day from the Golden Eagles, and the team will accept donations toward breast cancer awareness and education. Admission to the games is free.

Following this weekend's series, Tech will remain at home to host Jacksonville State in a doubleheader on Wednesday and Belmont in a single game on Thursday.
