WOODSTOCK, Ga. --- The Tennessee Tech softball team wasted no time in putting up five runs in the opening inning Friday, but Georgia State was able to mount a comeback to take an 8-7 victory in TTU's opening game of the Buzz Classic.

Both teams combined for 15 runs on 17 hits, as both offenses were each able to put a five-spot on the scoreboard.

The deciding run came in the top of the sixth as Georgia State's Lauren Coleman led off the inning with a solo-shot to center field.

After two quick outs to open the bottom of the first the Golden Eagles rallied for five runs, using two hits and four walks to go up 5-0. Whitney Cummings drove in her three runs of the contest with an RBI double to center, while Angi Sakamoto drove in another two with an RBI double down the right field line.

The Panthers and Golden Eagles exchanged two-run innings as GSU tallied two in the top of the third, while Tech notched two runs of its own in the bottom of the fourth to regain its five-run lead at 7-2. GSU then rallied for five runs in the top of the fifth, using five hits and two Tech errors to knot up the score at seven.

Kaitlyn Medlam earned the victory for the Panthers as she threw 3.2 innings, while giving up just two hits and two walks. Cummings was saddled with the loss as she threw three innings, while giving up two runs.

Holly Thomas, who started for Tech, gave up six runs on five hits while striking out a pair.

At the plate Brittney Spalding coaxed three walks, while Chanelle Spalding and Cummings each tallied a team-high two hits.

Georgia State's Alana Thomas and Erin Collins combined for 3.1 innings pitched as they surrendered all of TTU's seven runs on five hits and six walks.

To Golden Eagles continue action in the Buzz Classic Saturday as they take on UNC Greensboro at 3 p.m. and Southeastern Louisiana at 5 p.m.
